Good corporate citizenship

Elior Foundation

Set up in 1996 under the aegis of the Fondation de France, the Elior Foundation “Acting For Education” (Agir pour l’Education) focuses on helping young students each year to pursue higher education.

It serves a dual purpose: to encourage social mobility and to help low-income families to pay for their children’s education beyond secondary school. In the past 10 years, the Foundation has helped to demonstrate our commitment to the community by granting more than 800 scholarships worth a total of €1.25 million to 448 students.

Helping the disadvantaged find employment

In December 2005, we pledged to uphold and promote cultural, ethnic and social diversity by signing the Corporate Diversity Charter.

In France, this commitment has led to a partnership agreement with Établissement Public d'Insertion de la Défense (EPIDE) under which Avenance offers internships to young people with no qualifications, leading to apprenticeships or permanent jobs. In the Motorway business, Eliance has renewed the agreement signed with its employee representatives in 2004 to encourage hiring of disabled people. Active communication with non-profit organisations such as CAP Emploi, which helps disabled people find work, and participation in events such as Jobs for the Disabled Week (Semaine Des Handicapés) led to many disabled people being hired. In Spain, Serunion has published a brochure that provides details of the various regional partners who help underprivileged young people and disabled workers to find employment.

Reaching out across generations

We encourage and promote intergenerational dialogue.

Among our most noteworthy initiatives was the “Talk About Soup!” (Raconte-Moi La Soupe) cookery competition organised for senior citizens living in retirement homes where we are responsible for catering. Residents were invited to find a soup recipe from their childhood and prepare it with a child attending a school that uses Avenance's catering services. The competition was recognised as “a major national community initiative” in 2004. Through the “We’re Thinking of You” (On Pense à Vous) campaign, which was also recognised as a major community initiative in 2004, elderly people received birthday cards made for them by primary school children.

Fair trade

As a responsible caterer, we offer and promote a range of 120 fair trade products at many of our client sites, including coffee, tea, pineapple juice, pasta, rice, preserves, sugar and grapes.

To demonstrate our fair trade commitment to our teams, in April 2005 we organised an awareness and information meeting led by Francisco Van Der Hoff, creator of the first fair trade label, Max Havelaar, and featuring a guest coffee producer from a Mexican agricultural cooperative. In 2006, we actively participated in France’s Fair Trade Weeks (Quinzaine du Commerce Equitable) by offering a cup of fair trade coffee to all guests visiting our restaurants.
